Yan Mingshu is as beautiful as her name implies, but her life is a series of misfortunes. Her parents are cold and unloving, and they plan to marry her off to a pot-bellied rich merchant for a hefty dowry.
Unwilling to accept her fate, Yan Mingshu decides to find her own marriage partner through blind dates.
To her surprise, her very first blind date is her former university professor, whom she remembers fondly as a gentle and compassionate woman from just a year ago.
Yan Mingshu is so nervous she doesn’t know what to do with her hands or feet.
The other woman smiles and calls her, “Mingshu, may I call you that?”
Yan Mingshu places her hands primly on her lap, her fingers crumpling the white fabric of her skirt as she lowers her head and says, “Y-yes… you can.”
Shen Junlan comes from a family with strict rules and carries herself with gentle grace. Yet, no one knows she possesses a strong carnal desire that she suppresses with a fierce moral code, vowing to only act on it after marriage.
When she’s screening her blind date candidates, her eyes immediately fall on her former student, Yan Mingshu.
When the two women reveal their marriage requirements, Yan Mingshu says with embarrassment, “I need a million-yuan dowry.”
Professor Shen smiles and agrees.
“What do you need, Professor Shen?”
“I only need you to fulfill your wifely duties.”
Yan Mingshu digs her nails into her palm, blushing as she agrees, “Okay.”
She thinks that since there is no love, it’s her duty to be a good wife.
Only after the marriage, when faced with Professor Shen’s high-frequency needs, does Yan Mingshu finally understand what those “duties” truly entail.
