After yet another argument with her mother, Ran Xi ran away from home on a winter night wearing nothing but a thin nightgown.
A car stopped in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing a beautiful woman who asked with concern,
“Do you need help?”
Ran Xi recognized her immediately.
She was Kong Lingyi, her mother’s sworn enemy.
Already frozen to the point where she could barely speak, Ran Xi watched as the woman stepped out of the car, draped a warm coat over her shoulders, and personally opened the door for her.
“Get in.”
That night, after calming down, Ran Xi finally realized she probably shouldn’t be staying in this woman’s house.
But the long apology message she sent to her mother only earned her a red exclamation mark.
Squatting in a corner, she quietly wiped away tears.
“Mom…”
The woman, who had been watching her from a distance, raised an eyebrow.
“Who are you calling?”
Thinking about the red exclamation mark in the chat window, Ran Xi felt a little abandoned.
A mischievous thought suddenly arose.
Her youthful eyes brimmed with provocation.
“Who else could I be calling?”
“I’d be even happier if you called me that in front of Ran Xu.”
Ran Xi’s relationship with her mother remained as explosive as ever.
Over time, she developed a habit: whenever they argued, she would run to Kong Lingyi’s place.
Wanting to improve the mother-daughter relationship, Ran Xi asked the woman for help.
As her mother’s long-time rival, Kong Lingyi surely understood Ran Xu better than anyone.
The day she escorted Ran Xi home, Kong Lingyi abandoned her usual hostile attitude and kindly advised:
“When children don’t listen, they should be disciplined properly.”
What Ran Xu hadn’t anticipated was that Ran Xi was equally spoiled and willful in front of Kong Lingyi.
As for how that discipline played out…
That was another story.
