The young General Shen Zhishu returned in triumph from the Northern Desert. As he paraded through the streets on horseback, he was suddenly intercepted by a cold beauty.

Shen Zhishu frowned imperceptibly and asked, “What is your intention, sir?”

In response, he only heard the man’s ragged, hurried breathing. Shen Zhishu looked down and noticed the flush creeping across the stranger’s face.

The beauty had been drugged with an aphrodisiac.

With a sigh, Shen Zhishu helped him through the ordeal and, at the man’s request, agreed to escort him home. Under the distant stars and biting frost, the General galloped toward the destination provided by his “hot potato” of a passenger.

Two incense sticks later, the passenger muttered, “We’re here,” his gaze dark and unreadable. Shen Zhishu looked up with relief, only to freeze when he saw the plaque above the gates: The Grand Princess’s Residence.

The following day, the imperial court held a banquet to reward the victorious heroes. At the feast, the “Grand Princess” appeared indifferent, seemingly forgetting the previous night’s encounter entirely.

Shen Zhishu was more than happy to let it slide, but he was cornered once again after the guests dispersed. The Princess or rather, the prince remained stoic, yet his words were startlingly clear: “Can we do it again?”

Shen Zhishu: “?”

The Prince: “It felt very good.”

Shen Zhishu: “???”

When the Grand Princess’s residence began scouting for a consort, the gates were swamped with suitors. Shen Zhishu, believing a soldier’s life belonged to the battlefield and not a domestic cage, had no intention of joining the fray. That night, however, his manor was unceremoniously invaded.

In the darkness, the “Princess” lunged onto his bed and tied himself up in a few swift motions. Under the pale moonlight, that expressionless face leaned in, a low voice straining through his throat:

“Little Master Shen, you are late.”

“If you keep hiding, I will have no choice but to kidnap you for our wedding.”
